           Scales for Wishes is about a fourth grade girl with the name of Courtney, she is a tomboy and doesn’t have many friends at school. Courtney didn’t have a mother, she lived in a small house with her dad who was her only friend. One day Courtney asked her dad if she could have a pet fish, and her dad agreed she was responsible enough. So the next day after school her dad took her to the only lake in town, The Lake of Dreams. Courtney and her dad sat there with their fishing poles waiting for a bite. Then Courtney felt a tug on her line, she railed it in with strong force, and to her surprise it was the biggest fish she ever caught. The fish was a long beautiful, glittery fish, with rainbow scales. Courtney and her dad took the fish home, and placed it in a big tank right next to Courtney’s bed. That night when everyone was asleep. The fish jumped out of its tank and flew singing with it’s harmonic voice, it awoke Courtney who was startled and very scared. The fish told Courtney not to be scared, and Courtney was reassured the fish was nice because of her beautiful voice. The fish told her that her name was Natalia. Then after that night Courtney and the Natalia spent a lot of time together watching movies, and sometimes just talking, they shared many secrets to one another and told a lot of jokes. Many days passed, Natalia taught Courtney what it was like to have a friend and how to feel confident about herself.  Natalia wanted to do something for Courtney so she told her the truth that she was a magical fish that could grant as much wishes as possible. Courtney went to sleep that night and waited till morning to make her wishes. That morning Courtney decided what she really wanted, she wanted a lot of friends, then “Puff” every kid on Courtney’s block wanted to be her friend, and Courtney thanked Natalia. Courtney had many friends at school now and she was popular, but she didn’t look like them. Courtney wished for blond hair just like her friends, and “Puff” she had blond hair, and she thanked Natalia. Courtney looked like them, but she didn’t dress like them, so she wished for nice clothes like theirs and “Puff” Courtney had all the latest fashions, and she forgot to thank Natalia. One night as Courtney slept happily, Natalia noticed her scales getting dull, and not as colorful as they used to be. Natalia knew she had to go back to The Lake of Dreams, but she loved making this little girl happy, that Natalia decided to stay longer. Courtney’s wishes didn’t stop, it seemed she needed more and more things to make her feel beautiful, without thinking she wished and she wished but she never said thank you to Natalia. Natalia used so much energy on the wishes that she was practically gray now, and she felt very weak. Courtney was unhappy still even with everything she had, and she complained it was never going to be enough. Courtney was on her way home from her limo to make a new wish, and when she got to her bedroom her fish was floating at the top…dead. Courtney saw there was a folded-up sheet of paper on her bed. Courtney opened it up and read it allowed, “You don’t need anything to make yourself beautiful, all you need is confidence. Remember this, beauty comes from within. -Natalia.” Courtney shed a tear, because now she understood what it meant. So the next day Courtney gave the somethings to the homeless shelter and and only kept the things she needed. Just remembering what Natalia said she smiled, and she was happy about herself.
In this project I am the illustrator. It is my job to plan out the storyboard and draw it. It is very important for me to draw every picture similar to what the writer is talking about on that certain page. My job is very simple, it’s just drawing.
