Interviewing in Abu Dhabi

December 17, 2007

The biggest difference would have to be the censorship in the books and the internet. In U.S. everyone can read book and go on the internet with religious contents, but in Abu they cover up those things. They use black markers to hide any unwanted information on religion. On internet they set a fire wall for the religious contents.

The government is always setting firewalls on things regarding religion or government.

At school they provide high-tech computers that are very expensive, the classroom we looked into had about thirty computers. Apparently if you break the rules all the computers in the school will have internet taken away.  Students we talked to didn’t have any myspace or Facebooks.

Animal Farm Chapters 5 & 6

December 17, 2007

Winter came close for the animals, many of the animals worked hard to get food many except Mollie. Soon Clover confronted Mollie about her issue on flirting with humans, and she obviously lied about it and ran away. After that day the only news they heard from Mollie was that she lived with a human who petted her nose and provided her with ribbons to wear. That long winter many debates were now taken place in the barn every Sunday. And as usual Snowball and Napoleon were arguing. But Snowball came up with a clever plan he learned from the books he found in Mr. Jones’ house. Snowball’s plan was to create a machine that would do everything automatically for the animals, but it was going to take a year. Napoleon  strongly disagreed with this,  but when the final votes came in for weather or not they should build it, all the animals agreed to. At this final choice, Napoleon yelped. Then out of nowhere a nine dogs charged towards Snowball, and it lead him to run into a hedge. After that incident they never saw Snowball that winter, and Napoleon took over the whole farm. He demanded all the animals to make a windmills, work longer hours, and Sunday meetings canceled.  Then when winter almost ended the animals awoke to find that their windmill which they were very close to finishing was broken. Napoleon was the first to speak and say that Snowball was the one who broke it, and who ever found him and killed him got a price.

Animal Farm: 3 & 4

Every animal worked equally hard on the farm. Later they made a flag for the animal farm, the color was green. Then every Sunday morning in the garden house they held a flagstaff. They also held meetings to debate resolutions, but most of the time only Napoleon and Snowball were the only one arguing. Snowball decided to hold classes to help all animals to either tame them or teach them to read and write. But most animals made little improvement, by autumn. Still Snowball debated education for the youngest were the most important. Then it happened that Jessie and Bluebell gave birth to nine puppies. Napoleon who strongly disagreed with Snowball’s statement, surprisingly agreed to raise the puppies with a good education and he placed them high in the barn hard. All the animals harvested and the mystery of the milk was solved, it was mixed with the pigs mash.

1. How do the pigs set themselves up to run the farm?

Since the pigs are the most intelligent animals on the farm, they start ruling everyone. It happens during debates and other jobs. Most of the suggestions come from them, and all the other animals just follow. The pigs boss the animals around, and create rules for everyone to follow, and that’s how they set themselves up to  run the farm.

2. In a Utopia, everyone is equal. How does the typical Sunday meeting or the disposition of milk and apples relate to the Seventh Commandment? What does this suggest for the future of the dream?

Sunday Meetings the disposition of milk and the apples relate to the Seventh Commandment because it helps organize a perfect place for all animals. This could mean a brighter future for all the animals even the other animals to come.

Neopets

December 4, 2007

The site Neopets.com is a website created to advertise children of all ages. This website advertise many brands and products like General Mills, Mcdonalds, Limited Too, ect. The world of Neopia has many places to explore, games to play and cute creatures to take care of, this is what they use to hook kids on the site. Immersive advertising is used in this site. It is when company’s name and products are mixed into the entertainment. In Neopets the immersive advertising is in the games. I think immersive adertising is not good for kids, because they get persuaded easily. But if it means gaining alot of money immersive advertising is very persuasive, and a child can easily see, ask, and get what they want, then the money would all go to the bussiness.

Immoral Advertising Essay

December 4, 2007

Advertisements are disguised into posters, games, TVs, and more. It is no wonder we cannot see them. Many kids prefer McDonalds rather then vegetables. Could it be the great taste or the advertisements? It is the techniques in the advertising that is so unethical. Techniques like advertisers working with psychologist, building brand name loyalty, and viral advertisements are immoral. Today advertisements are everywhere and most are targeted on young people for all the wrong reasons, and it has been a huge impact on how kids think.

Advertisers want to get into the minds of young people, and in order to do this they hire psychologists. Psychologist jobs are to help young people cope with their problems by studying what they think, but by helping advertisers get into kids, they are not doing their jobs. Advertisers learn how to put their advertisements into “explicit-contents,” those are the things young people today cherish, such as radios, TVs, and more, and they get all that information from psychologists. For example McDonalds toys are made to attract kids, to buy not only the toy but the buy the happy meal. With the help of psychologist, advertisers know exactly what kids dream and desire, with this information they acquire, they turn it into an advertisement attracting specifically them.

Building brand name loyalty is a life long obsession with one brand. It starts out with a single customer who gets lured into a certain brand, and stick with it for the rest of their life. That is a reason advertisers target young children, because when they do that child is most certain to grow up liking that brand. After that when that child looks back at that brand they see a comforting image of their warm childhood. Building brand names like McDonalds are already sewed into young kids’ minds, and example of that was shown in a study. The kids were given the same carrots, but the other one was wrapped in McDonald’s wrappers. Most of the kids who tasted both agreed that the carrot wrapped in a McDonalds wrappers tasted much better then the one wrapped in plain wrappers. That is because they have already been brainwashed into thinking McDonalds can put a smile on their faces. With all the advertising they see McDonalds as food heaven. Even though McDonalds is unhealthy many kids are loyal to it. Advertisements are to blame. Advertisers spend billions of dollars just to advertise their products, hiring celebrities or even kids who appear cool. Building brand name loyalty helps advertisers get a lot of money for a long time.

Viral advertisements are the worst type of advertisements, they are corrupt and deceiving. These advertisements are found in websites and most people are unaware of it when it is there. It was reported that advertisers read personal messages on Facebook, with this information they knew what interested them. On Myspace people post bulletins, these bulletins go to all your friends, but many times your account would get hacked and what seems like personal messages would just be advertisements. The shocking thing about viral advertisement is that it spreads just like a virus, and sometimes you might not even be aware of it.

Although many people think advertisements are not corrupt, others may believe it is. Advertisements are corrupt, because it controls what people think and what advertisers want them to think. Advertisement is not a horrible thing, but the people they target and the techniques they use are all immoral. Most cases, kids who are being advertised are not even aware of it. Advertisements are put everywhere from TVs, radios, and posters. Young people do not have a choice if they want to see it or not. Advertisers want kids to be stuck to their brand, so they spend billions and billions of dollars just for young people to stick to it up to the day they die. The media is controlled by advertisements, and are affecting mostly everyone’s lives, if it means wrong or right, its working. Today advertisements are everywhere and most are targeted on young people for all the wrong reasons, and it has been a huge impact on how kids think.

This Essay was an interesting topic to write about, but it wasn’t that fun to write a whole thesis on. Although I did learn a lot about advertising. I learned that advertising is mostly targeted on kids my age, and it is bad. I learned that advertisers spent about 17 million last year just to put advertisements. I learned about all the techniques used, and after I was aware of it I found out I was many of the people who are being lured into the advertisements. I’m glad I learned about advertising, because I want to be aware of my surroundings.
